A race of space vampires arrive in London and infect the populace.
Halley's Comet returns to the solar system and the English/American team aboard the shuttle "Churchill", making a close-up survey of the comet, discovers an alien spacecraft in the head of the comet. Inside the spacecraft are some large bat-like creatures and in three cocoons are three "dead" humans - two men and a woman. The "Churchill" takes the humans and a creature back to Earth. There the bosses of the project are amazed to find the shuttle burnt out and all but one of the crew - Carlsen - dead. The humans from the spacecraft suddenly awake and all those who come into contact with them are drained of their "lifeforce" and in time all the victims - including most of the population of London - are turned into zombies all preying on the horrified survivors for their "lifeforce". It's up to Carlsen and Major Caine of the SAS to stop them before the whole world turns into a big blood-hunt…
Colin Wilson's book 'Space Vampires' was a bit of a spin-off of his earlier book 'The Mind Parasites'. The book was good and whilst the movie deviated somewhat (less philosophy to think about, more special effects to look at) I thought it quite good too. Certainly, to get an acceptable movie they couldn't have done much else than make the changes they did.
A much more interesting marriage of Sci-Fi and Horror than Alien. Not quite as suspenseful though. Here we have beings from some other planet that are referred to as vampires. That is a rather loose interpretation but close enough anyway. The special effects are excellent, especially the transforming of people while having their lifeforce sucked out. No single element of this movie is totally original but the way they are put together is almost a masterpiece. The acting is extremely good. The only weakness, which is common to most other movies where character development is a goal, was that it is a little too short. I wish the DVD had added more of the original footage back in. All in all it was a great movie. Just don't watch it all alone late at night like I did.

2 real possibilities, firstly that they're both dead and their energy released as with the rest of the victims. Secondly that they are still alive and preserved on the ship and will return with Halley's comet in the mid 21st centuary Open to interpretation, either the energy of the human souls has been used to revive the vampires in their crystal coffins or the humans have actually become the new vampires and are preserved until the ship returns to Earth with Halley's comet. The only released version in Germany e.g. is the Theatrical Version. In the UK and US on the other hand, the only available DVD Version is the longer Original Version, referred to as Director's Cut. Lots of footage got cut out but most of the cuts were probably made for pace. Lots of scenes refering to vampires have been removed. Apart from that, the investigations of incidents with vampires, which have been cut out from the Theatrical Version, are much shorter as well. Some scenes really benefit from this because the timing is better but in most cases, the Director's Cut is the better and more convincing version. In total there are more than 100 hundred differences between both versions resulting in a difference of more than 14 minutes.
